Daevid Allen was in Melbourne in 1988 to record "Stroking the Tail of
the Bird", just before returning to England
with the help of Rob Ayling, to re-activate the Gong band,
which hadn't been playing in England since several years.
At the same time, MOTHER GONG, with their usual method of
"spontaneous compositions", were recording these
tracks and others that came out on the CD "Tree in the Fish". "The Owl and The Tree" was made from
tracks recorded at this very creative time.
